Flu Vaccine

sick child

Don’t have your child miss school this year because of the flu. The School District of Janesville will be providing flu vaccines at no cost to children in the elementary and middle schools. The vaccine is being directed to those students who do not have health insurance coverage or who are enrolled in the Medicaid program. The vaccine will be provided by a nasal spray, there will be no shots. Students with any of the following conditions would not be eligible to receive the nasal spray vaccine: allergies to eggs or gelatin; receiving regular aspirin therapy; diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, asthma, cystic fibrosis, or chronic bronchitis; have an altered immune system; or received an immunization in the last 4 weeks. If you are interested in having your child receive the flu vaccine, stop into the school office to complete the permission form and screening questions. Flu vaccines will be given at school, during the school day in late October and early November. If you have questions call 743-5097.

Are you having a tough time finding a dentist for your child? Dental services are being provided to students in the School District of Janesville. These services are provided at no cost to the family. Students in EC, Pre-Kindergarten, K, 1, 4, and 5 who are Medicaid eligible can receive a dental exam and a fluoride varnish. The fluoride varnish is applied three times during the school year and helps to strengthen teeth. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade can receive these same services as well as have dental sealants applied. Sealants are the best way to prevent cavities on molars. The services to 2nd and 3rd graders are open to any student. All services will be provided right at school by a licensed dental hygienist. To have your child seen, complete an enrollment form in the school office and your child will be seen the next time the hygienist is at your school. Thank you.
